The mini chip is about a 1/15th of the size of a U.S. dime, and uses the power of optical networking via light pulses versus wires to achieve increased data transfer speed and be more energy efficiency. The chip has been designed to move data over a distance within a meter, making it ideal for use with computer servers and other data centers.
