Company and Army researchers will collaborate on developing advanced virus detection tools for the field
NanoEngineering Corp of West Palm Beach FL announced it entered into a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the U.S. Army Edgewood Chemical Biological Center (ECBC) in Maryland. ECBC is the Army’s principal research and development center for chemical and biological defense technology, engineering and field operations.
The research teams will focus on the development of field-portable instruments for detection and measurement of nanoscopic particles that include potentially hazardous viruses. The instrument’s virus detection function will be based on patented technology developed at ECBC and NE proprietary technology. Innovative pathogen detection technology is critical to national defense and homeland security efforts.
Jerry Schmitt, President of NanoEngineering Corporation states, “This represents an exciting opportunity to introduce our nano-particle measurement technologies to the field of virology, which has applications in disease-detection, security, public-health, medicine and agriculture.”
