Nanotechnology Aiding In Determining Gene Expression
Jan 31, 2007
An interdisciplinary team of researchers at UCLA’s California Nanosystems Institute (CNSI), New York University’s Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, and Veeco Instruments, a leading nanotechnology tool company have developed new nanotechnology that can examine single molecules in order to determine gene expression.
Researchers had only been able to determine gene expression using DNA sequencing or microarray technology but these processes could not effectively measure single gene transcripts which are fundamental to gene expression. According to the January issue of the journal Nanotechnology, the researchers were able to isolate and identify sensitive transcript molecules (individual).
