North Carolina Wants to Be Known as “State of Innovation”

State sees innovation as key to long-term, sustainable economic growth

Governor Bev Perdue of North Carolina has already created the state’s first Innovation Council, and the group will focus on developing policies that foster innovation in all sectors of the economy-from academic to private industry to government. The Council will include leaders from government, high tech business, venture capital firms, higher education, and nonprofit groups. North Carolina has a particular interest in fostering the growth of its biotechnology R&D, as the Council recently visited and praised the research being conducted at the Institute of Regenerative Medicine at Wake Forest University.
