Innovation Spotlight: MAR Systems Develops Novel Adsorbent Media Able to Remove Heavy Metals From Aqueous Streams
Selected to present at TechConnect World 2012, we talk with MAR Systems President & CEO Anthony Lammers to discuss the latest updates on its revolutionary Sorbster™ technology
MAR Systems’ Sorbster™ media is highly effective in removing hazardous heavy metals such as mercury, selenium, Hexavalent chromium and arsenic, thus reducing industrial emissions into the environment. Anthony Lammers, President & CEO of MAR Systems, tells us that since presenting at TechConnect in Silicon Valley, CA in June, the company’s Sorbster™ technology has now been proven to remove fluoride and cyanide from water streams. Mr. Lammers also notes that multiple commercial installations are in place around the US, from Ohio (where the company is based) to Southern California.
The Sorbster™ technology was co-developed with the US EPA under a CRADA. Mr. Lammers tells us that the EPA served as a co-inventor of the technology and research partner, and the partnership was formed through the EPA’s National Risk Management Research Laboratory in Cincinnati OH. In addition to research support from the EPA, MAR Systems has also received venture capital funding support from the State of Ohio as well as institutional VC and angel investors. The company was also awarded a State of Ohio Third Frontier Program Ohio Innovation Loan Award.
As a result of participating at TechConnect World, in their first year at the event, MAR Systems was able to have “a good number of meetings, including representatives from the refining, power generating, mining and environmental consulting industries, and perhaps get one new major client who visited our exhibit booth,” notes Lammers.
Having successfully raised $6 Million US in Series A and B funding to date, MAR Systems seeks both Series C funding and strategic development partners. To learn more about the company, visit:
