Fujitsu to Invest More Than $1 Billion US for 65nm Process Production

“We expect that logic semiconductor demand from fiscal year 2007 will exceed the current production capacity,” notes Fujitsu’s Electronics Devices business group. To meet anticipated demand, over the next two fiscal years, Fujitsu plans to invest close to 120 billion yen in new 65nm process technology in a second 300mm fab in Japan. The 300mm fab will be operational in April 2007, with mass shipments to begin in the summer of the same year.

The first 300mm fab employs 90nm technology, and will reach a production capacity of 15,000 wafers this year. The new fab will allow the electronics giant to keep up with the growing demand for advanced semiconductors with high performance. “Nanoscale technologies are important to Fujitsu as we pursue high-speed operation, low power consumption and miniaturization of semiconductors,” the company tells the NWN.
