Applied Materials and IMEC Join Forces to Develop Nanoelectronics Technologies
Applied Materials, Inc., an equipment and services provider for the semiconductor industry, and IMEC, a European nanoelectronics and nanotechnology research center, announced a joint effort to develop 32nm and 22nm-node copper/low k interconnect processing technologies. The objective of the two companies is to address significant manufacturing challenges that chipmakers could face as they transition to future device generations. Applied’s partnership with IMEC falls under IMEC’s nanoelectronics research program, whose industry partners include Intel, Panasonic/Matsushita, Philips Semiconductors, Samsung, and Texas Instruments.
