Applied Materials Plans Work With Top Indian Academic Institutions On Semiconductor Manufacturing
California-based Applied Materials, the largest supplier of products and services to the semiconductor industry, will be working with Indian universities on advanced materials research, nanoelectronics, and device characterization and reliability as a way to position India for semiconductor manufacturing. Applied Materials plans to give Indian academic institutions funding, collaborate on research programs, implement new degree programs, and offer award fellowships. The company is investing in India now because they see a strong future that includes both semiconductor chip manufacturing and purchasing of consumer chip-related products in the country. Currently, Applied Materials has 800 staff located in Bangalore and Pune, with more than half focused on software development and engineering design and engineering services.
