ASML Claims 45-nm Advantage in Its Third Quarter Results
ASML, located in The Netherlands, is claiming that it is leading the race to offer scanners for 45-nanometer chip manufacturing, evidenced by its steady financial results for Q3 2005. During the third quarter, ASML shipped 39 lithography machines, 1 more than previously estimated (38), giving the company a net profit of about $58 million (US). But the company’s net sales declined by 13% from 2004 to 2005, due to the current state of the semiconductor industry. ASML anticipates Q4 2005 orders will remain at the same level as in the previous quarter, expecting to ship 40 systems by the end of the year.
