Philips Electronics Aim For Instant Blood Tests
Researchers at Philips have two research projects underway that looks to make testing of blood samples for diseases instantaneous, which will allow for earlier detection and more effective treatment. At an innovation event in the Netherlands, Philips Electronics presented a prototype biosensor, which the company hopes can someday be built into a handheld device so that physicians can perform standard blood tests on the spot. Scientists at Philips note that the final product is still 3 to 5 years of development work away. Philips has identified medical equipment as its new area for future growth, for it generates more consistent profits than other electronics areas (such as chips and consumer electronics).
