India Plans for Fabrication Facility Within the Next 12 Months
India’s ministry of information technology has chartered a plan for 2005-2006 that includes the creation of a holding company to establish a fabrication facility, which will be done through the efforts of government and private industry. The ministry has been voicing a need to have a major fab facility in India, and the government is willing to take on some of the costs of creating it. Included in the ministry’s plan is a microelectronics and nanotechnology program to be undertaken by the Indian Institute of Science in Bangladore and the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay. These institutions will each have their own nanoelectronics research center, with programs that include acoustic sensors, magnetic materials, and nano-systems for healthcare and environmental monitoring.
