Oncor Uses Nanotechnology To Protect Its Wires From Copper Thieves
Copper theft is growing problem for many communities across the United States. People are stealing copper wires to sell to others or to use for their own wiring projects. Oncor’s many miles of distribution and transmission lines makes it more vulnerable to copper thieves. One of the protection methods Oncor has enlisted is by marking its wires ‘invisibly’ with its name using nanotechnology so their wires can be identified if they are stolen. Oncor is also working with Texas legislators and law enforcement to make it harder for unregistered individuals to sell copper.
