Korea Sets Its Sights on Becoming Global Nanotechnology Leader
The Korean government has a grand plan when it comes to nanotechnology: they want to make Korea one of the top three countries for nanotechnology by the year 2020. Korea’s Science and Technology Ministry released its National Nanotechnology Roadmap this month, which outlines a strategic plan for research and development in the field. The Roadmap identifies four nanotechnology sectors: nano-element, nano-manufacturing, nano-bio and nano-energy and environmental technology. Government officials believe their commitment will lead Korea to control 20% of the world’s nanotechnology market within the next twelve years. The final national nanotechnlology plan will be presented later this year for approval.
