GE Global Research Announces Latest Results of Nano Solar Cell Demonstration
GE Global Research reports that their Nano Photovoltaics (PV) scientific team has demonstrated a scalable silicon nanowire-based solar cell. The innovative solar cell has the potential to achieve up to 18% efficiency, and can be manufactured at a lower cost than conventional solar cells. By achieving both improved efficiency and lower production costs, the research team believes their latest demonstration is a promising development with regards to bringing PV systems to more consumers. GE Global Research is the central research arm of General Electric, which has made significant financial and research commitments to clean and renewable energies through their Ecoimagination program. Dr. Loucas Tsakalakos, Project Leader of GE’s Nano PV team, will be a featured speaker at the upcoming NSTI Nanotech conference, taking place June 1-5, 2008 in Boston, MA.
