Nano-Enabled Capacitor Could Lead to More Affordable DNA Sequencing

A research team from the University of Illinois used computer simulations to drive a DNA molecule back and forth through a nanopore capacitor through a semiconductor device. This novel technique for sequencing DNA developed by the university researchers could lead to the creation of a cost-effective and fast device able to read human genomes. The technique was developed by university physics professor Dr. Aleksei Aksimentiev and his colleagues, and the simulations were conducted at the university’s National Center for Supercomputing Application.
