U.S. Researchers Show Nanodiamonds Are Ideal For Effective Drug Delivery

Researchers from Northwestern University has shown that aggregated clusters of nanodiamonds are an ideal vehicle for delivering a chemotherapy drug without harm to healthy cells. Dr. Dean Ho, assistant professor of biomedical engineering and mechanical engineering at Northwestern's McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, led the research team. The reseach group’s study also showed that nanodiamonds could also fight bacterial and viral infections. Their study is the first to demonstrate the effectiveness of nanodiamonds in biomedicine. The research work was supported by a grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the National Institutes of Health
