MIT Creates “Nanosilk” For Multiple Industry Applications
As the spider in the web is able to create strong, flexible silk-like webs, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has also found a way to create a man-made silk with similar properties. MIT’s nanosilk strands, polymeric nanocomposite materials, have multiple applications, from tear-resistant fabrics to membranes for fuel cells. The research was funded by the U.S. Army through MIT's Institute for Soldier Nanotechnologies and the NSF.
