Federal Labs To Build Multiple Centers Devoted to Nanoscale Technologies
Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois recently announced plans to open a Center for Nanoscale Materials, which is expected to be fully operational by October 2008. The Center is one of five being built at federal labs across the U.S. as part of the U.S. Department of Energy's Nanoscale Science Research Center program under the Office of Basic Energy Sciences. The Argonne Nano Center is a joint partnership between the U.S. Department of Energy and Illinois state government, and represents a total combined initial investment of more than $70 million, which will cover the building of the Center, advanced instrumentation, and creating a user facility.
