Leading European Semi Company To Provide Security Chips for Passports
Infineon Technologies AG, whose parent company is Siemens, recently announced that the U.S. has contracted the company to provide security chips for their electronic passport system. The chip is read using an electronic scanner, and stores the passport holder's name, photo, date of birth, and issue date. Infineon currently provides similar chips for e-passports to more than 15 countries, including Hong Kong and Sweden.
