China Wants Increased Chip Cooperation with the U.S.

According to local China reports, Chinese Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan is seeking more semiconductor industry collaboration between his country and the United States. Peiyan and his delegation recently met with the U.S. Semiconductor Industry Association (whose members include Intel, Micron, and Advanced Micro Devices) in the hopes that leading U.S. chip companies would consider setting up R&D operations so that their engineers could be trained for the industry. He has stated that China is willing to increase its protections of IP rights; in the past, its lack of protecting these rights and illegal use of IP have deterred high-tech investments in the country.
