U.S. Government Announces Launch of Collaborative Nanotechnology Research Center
This month, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Mr. Carlos M. Gutierrez announced that a state-of-the-art center for collaborative nanotechnology research would be created at the Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The new Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology (CNST) will bring together scientists from leading U.S. companies, universities and government agencies to focus on addressing the technical obstacles that currently hold back cost-effective manufacturing of products made with nanoscale technologies. The United States is a strong investor in nanoscale technologies; under the American Competitiveness Initiative, President Bush has asked for a $20 million increase in funding for NIST’s nanotechnology research for FY2007.
