French Wafer Company To Invest More than $400 Million US For New Fab
Soitec announced this month that it would expand its silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology production capacity. The total investment by the company to expand its operations will reach $420 million US. In order to meet increased demand, Soitec will use its latest investment to build a new 300-mm SOI wafer fab, to be fully operational in 2008. IBM Electronics, AMD, Freescale, Sony, and Toshiba currently use Soitec products for several of their market lines. These large semiconductor companies use SOI materials for 90-nm and have increased its use for 65-nm process technologies.
