mPhase Technologies and Lucent Technologies Bell Labs Develop Nano-Based “Smart” Battery Prototype

The companies have jointly developed a nano-based "smart" battery prototype which has proven it can store and convert energy on demand. The “smart” battery prototype is based on innovative nanostructured architecture first created at Bell Labs. In a test conducted at Bell Labs' New Jersey facility, the team showed that the first fully assembled prototype device could create enough power on demand to light a light-emitting diode (LED). This battery has the potential to give a much longer shelf life than current battery technology, and represents a significant achievement in the technology development process.
