Nanotech Task Force in California Gives Recommendations to Its State

California is looking to jump ahead of the competition in nanotechnology research and commercialization.

Last month, California officials received detailed recommendations from the Blue Ribbon Task Force in Nanotechnology that outlined ways to ensure the state will be a leader in the projected $1 trillion nanotechnology industry. In a December press release issued by the California Blue Ribbon Task Force, the group noted that “Levi’s, Gap and other companies are already using nanotechnology to make stain resistant clothes; L’Oreal inserts nanocapsules to deliver incredibly small particles of moisturizer deep into the skin; and, GM uses nanomaterials to strengthen fenders.” The Blue Ribbon Task Force includes members of California State Legislature and leaders in academia and business, and advocates for a strategic, innovative nanotechnology plan for the state.
