Annual Symposium Synopsys
Nanoscale technologies have a potential revolutionary impact into the
basic understanding, visualization and therapeutic applications of
neuroscience. The special symposium on Nanotechnology to Neuroscience
will deliver the state of the art in nanotechnology applications towards
the development of therapies and pharmaceuticals for the treatment of
neurological disorders, taking advantage of the nanoscale structure of
neural cells (both neurons and glia). The symposium will include
technologies such as quantum dots and other nanotechnologies that can
visualize, measure, and track the molecular structure and dynamics of
both intracellular and extracellular processes in neural cells.
Technologies will be presented that are designed and used to regulate,
influence, and modify cellular neural properties such as directed
growth, proliferation, secretion of specific factors, differentiation,
etc. A focus on technologies aimed at the delivery of molecules (eg.
pharmaceuticals, genetic material, etc.) targeted to the nervous system
will be covered, with a particular focus on delivery to the central
nervous system and neural retina. Finally, topics such as nano-neural
interfaces will be covered, both from a hardware and software (ie.
algorithm) perspective aimed at highly sophisticated informational
interfaces with neural cells and the nervous system.
Topics & Application Areas
- Neural Cell Nanostructure for Therapies
- Nanoscale Visualization for Neurology
- Regulating Neural Cell Properties

Submit Proposal or Comment to Committee Chair
We encourage you to participate and to submit your interest as either an Scientific Committee Member or to organize a Scientific Committee*. The NSTI will provide the infrastructure for each Industrial Committee to organize and present a focused Symposium at the annual Nanotech Conference and Trade Show (Nanotech 2008, Boston, Massachusetts, June 1-5, 2008). Details will be provide upon approval of proposal.
* All submissions will be reviewed by the NSTI Scientific Committee
Chairs and a timely response will be issued.
