Abstract:

Conducting polymers/inorganic semiconductor nanoparticles composite are attracting attention due to their tunable optical and electrical properties. The properties of the hybrid layer processed from the blend solution depend on the degree of dispersion of nanoparticles within the polymer matrix. In earlier studies particularly for hybrid solar cell application, the conjugated polymer-inorganic nanoparticles composites were prepared by mixing polymer and TOPO (Trioctylphosphine oxide) coated inorganic nanoparticles in a solution. The resulting solution showed inhomogeneities associated with nanoparticles agglomeration. This is one of the most difficult problems in dealing with nanoparticles due to high surface energy, which leads to their easy agglomeration in the solution. In addition, the reports of nanoparticle dispersion on conjugated polymer are very few and the question remains as to where these nanoparticles will chemically attach to the polymer chain.
