Abstract:
We selected peptides that can bind to hydroxyapatite [HAP, (Ca5(PO4)3OH)2] by using landscape phage display technique. We found that the HAP-binding peptides share some motifs with bone-specific proteins such as collagen and osteocalcin. We interacted the HAP-binding phage with preformed HAP nanoparticles and found that the HAP nanoparticles can be assembled into an array along the phage body. The HAP-coated phage may serve as a building block for further assembly into a higher-order structure.
