Abstract:
We report on a study that establishes the feasibility of nanoparticle-based therapy in orthotopic brain tumors under MR guidance and real-time temperature mapping, and nanoshell and laser dosimetries that permit the ablation of such tumors with minimal margins of thermal damage to normal brain tissue. In this study we used systemically-delivered, non-targeted nanoshells activated by percutaneously-delivered NIR radiation to selectively ablate tumors within the brain.
