Expermental Study of Hydrogen in Internal Combustion Engines

In this study, the engine performance, power, efficiency, specific fuel consumption and variation of pressure in the cylinder have been investigated in case of the use of hydrogen fuels in internal combustion engines, and compared with gasoline. Hydrogen applied to SI engine, which has Ford 1,8 liter, for 1500, 2000, 2500 and 3000 rpm. In engine tests for gasoline and hydrogen, the maximum pressure values for the same revolution and load, it is seen that hydrogen was higher than the gasoline. In addition in SI engine the maximum pressure is required in 12 15 CA. In the experiments of gasoline the maximum pressures are obtained 12 - 15 CA. On the other hand; in the experiments of hydrogen the maximum pressure values are near the TDC (0 5 CA ATDC). While the load is increased, the maximum pressure values are come near the TDC If the brake thermal efficiency according to brake mean effective pressure has been investigated, the results obtained from study compared with the literature good agreement with experimental data is observed.
