Highly Charged Ions for High-Tech Applications
The outstanding properties of highly charged ions (HCI), i.e. the high amount of potential energy stored in the ions, the high particle charge and the high secondary ion and secondary electron yields, opens up new vistas for various high-tech applications. As a result of a collaboration of the Technische Universität Dresden and the DREEBIT GmbH new kinds of sources for HCI are presented for basic research, for surface analytics, FIB, nanostructuring, radiation biology and medical particle therapy.
