The CNSI is an integrated research center where preeminent researchers from chemistry, physics, engineering, biology and medicine work together at the atomic scale to seek new ways to safeguard the environment, discover new advances in medicine and innovations for renewable energy.

The CNSI at UCLA provides 180,000 square feet of brand new laboratory space creating vast opportunities for scholarly advancement and visionary research. Available for use by corporate and academic partners, the seven-story structure contains:
- Specially engineered space designed for low noise and low vibration research
- Core facilities that will house a wide variety of specialized equipment and instrumentation
- Microscopy and spectroscopy equipment
- High-throughput robotics for molecular screening
- Class 100 and class 1000 clean rooms
