David Kopans

Director of Regulatory Affairs
Fat Spaniel Technologies, Inc.

From start-ups to publicly traded entities, David is a serial entrepreneur and technology inventor who has started, run, and advised Software, Hardware, Biotech, and Clean Energy companies.

Among his many official roles as Fat Spaniel’s Director of Regulatory Affairs David has served as the Co-Chair of the California Solar Initiative’s Metering Subcommittee, was a member of ISO-NE’s Demand Resources Working Group drafting the Forward Capacity Market Rules, and developed the first set of verification procedures for Distributed Generation RECs to be approved by the Connecticut Department of Public Utility Control.

David is actively involved as a mentor to teams in the MIT Ignite Clean Energy competition and currently serves as Treasurer of the Board of Directors of ASES’ largest chapter, the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association.

David is a former CPA and CMA, holds a BA in Economics and Public Policy from Brown University, and earned his MBA with Honors in Finance and Accounting from NYU. He is also an inventor of two technology patents which are currently under license by the Fortune 50 and a former finalist in MIT’s Technology Review Magazine’s TR100 competition.
