Silicon Nanowires as Highly Efficient Thermoelectric Materials
Y. Bunimovich, A.I. Boukai, J. Tahir-Kheli, J-K Yu, W.A. Goddard III, J.R. Heath California Institute of Technology, US
Keywords: silicon, nanowires, thermoelectrics
Abstract: Thermoelectric efficiency (ZT) of single-crystal silicon nanowires (Si NWs) is obtained by independent measurements of thermal and electrical conductivity, and thermopower. A significant improvement in ZT, ~100 times, compared to bulk silicon is observed over a wide temperature range. The doping level and NW diameter are independently controlled for ZT optimization.
