“Eco-Friendly” World: Negotiating The Fine Lines Between “Green” Claims and Verification

Abstract: Whole Foods has been very actively involved in developing processes to verify or “vett” the many thousands of “green” claims that come at us every day. We are bombarded by manufacturers and vendors who claim that their products are “earth friendly”, “eco-responsible”, and many other such terms that may or may not have any validity or true environmental relevance. We of course are not alone in experiencing this rush to “greenness”, but we are developing a set of standards and criteria against which to measure such claims.
