Abstract: Cardoon is a perennial, very deep-rooted weed of Mediterranean origin. If cultivated it produced under practically zero costs dry biomass yields of 12-16 t ha-1 rainfed ->25 t ha-1 (with 2-3 irrigations), ie. 6-8 toe for rainfed and >12.5 toe for supplementary irrigated crop, respectively.
