Abstract: High quality nanoparticles (nanocrystals) of quantum dots and magnetic iron oxides were successfully synthesized with wide available size rang but narrow size distribution. These nanoparticles show interesting size-dependent properties which can be used in biomedical imaging, LEDs, solar cells, as well as environmental remediation. A versatile strategy to make these high quality nanoparticles water-soluble was also established. This water-solubilization strategy also provides various capibilities to conjugate nanoparticle to biomolecules and cells.
