Abstract:
Pharmalidis Forms will commercialize a disruptive technology platform for packaging and delivery of drugs that are thermally unstable, and require storage and delivery without refrigeration. Pharmalidis will introduce the first automated portable rapid reconstitution packages (RRPs) as integrated solution, providing an enormous increase in shelf-life, and tolerance of drugs to temperature variations, while minimizing the required medical know-how to operate them. Currently, one of the main limiting factors for the drug supply chain is that drugs in solution need to be stored at controlled environmental conditions, i.e. room temperature; otherwise the drug efficacy is reduced and compromised significantly. Thermally unstable drugs are often solidified (lyophilized) to increase thermal stability. Several existing injectors and syringes incorporate cartridges that include the drugs in solid-form and allow the drugs to be mixed manually. The RRPs are the first medical products that will allow a complete automated rapid mixing of a drug (less than 10 seconds) implemented as auto-injectors and wearable devices for intramuscular, intravenous, and oral delivery. The company is currently developing the prototypes at MIT, and is seeking seed funding of $750,000 for product development for next 18 months until initial market penetration.
