Quantum Precision Instruments, Inc.
M. Michalewicz Quantum Precision Instruments, Inc., US
Keywords: instrumentation
Abstract: Products: 1. NEMS sensors: • accelerometers, gyroscopes: inertial guidance systems, missile guidance, aviation, shipping, automotive; • wireless networks of smart sensors (structural health monitoring); • seismometers, tremor sensors (nuclear, mining, mineral exploration, earthquake, tsunami); • flow, pressure and vibration sensors (medical diagnostics). 2. Metrology devices for ultra-precise measurements of position, translation, angular alignment (microelectronics, instrumentation and scientific markets). Current stage: Devices are tested for clients in the USA, UK, Germany and Singapore. Time-scale for first products is 1 year. The latest devices have 12,000 nanowires, each of 90 nm width and 5 mm length (~1:53,000 aspect ratio). The NEMS sensor will have less than 20 microns by 20 microns in size ~ 1/25 the cross sectional area of a human hair with approximately 50 nanowires on each opposing plate and each nanowire being 1/1000 of a human hair wide. Devices can be designed and built from low (seismometers) to very high frequency (eg: for chemical analysis). Quantum- has raised over US$1.1m from private and one institutional investor. The Company has won five Government grants worth US$133,000. US customer has funded technology assessment project ~US$200,000
