Abstract:
Alginates are biopolymers that are used in the food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical/medical industries. Alginate is extracted from brown seaweed. There are several problems associated with seaweed alginate: their harvest is seasonal, processing requires 15-20 steps, and seaweed alginate composition is fixed. Progenesis has discovered genetic techniques which allow bacteria to continually produce high amounts of alginate. Using patent-pending technology we believe that Progenesis can produce alginate at a lower cost than seaweed alginate. The unique properties of bacterial alginate will be used to produce new products for moisture control radioactive decontamination and drug delivery
