Abstract:
Hybrid wireless network/GPS positioning method. Algorithms on a mobile device determine if the required location accuracy is met solely by wireless network positioning. If not met the GPS chipset is activated briefly to obtain a GPS fix. The GPS receiver is only activated when needed, greatly reducing battery draw.
