Keywords: semiconductor, tetrapods
Abstract: In this study, the formation of CdSe tetrapods, synthesized by hot-injection technique at 190(injection)/160(growth) in five different solvents (1-octadecene (ODE), therminol66 (T66), dowtherm A (DTA), diphenyl oxide (DPO), and biphenyl (BP)), has been investigated. Growth of the terapods was monitored by UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction at regular intervals of time. These studies under identical experimental conditions reveal interesting correlations between the growth of the tetrapods and the nature of the solvent, showing that different solvents affect particle growth rate, final size and selectivity and leading to a better understanding of tetrapods formation.
