Research Partnership Leading to A Commercialized Nanocomposite Coating

Abstract:
A research partnership headed by Optical Dynamics and including the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville has developed a UV curable nanocomposite for optical elements. The research effort led to a commercialized product, nanoCLEAR™, which is an antireflective coating for plastic eyeglass lenses. The product allows individual retail stores to manufacture a pair of plastic eyeglass lenses to the finished prescription with a premium anti-reflective coating in an hour. The tools and expertise of the University researchers helped with the speed of the development process, while the students gained direct access to a commercial product development group.
