Novel Synthetic Method for the Preparation of Au Nanoplates with Tunable Size

Abstract: A new method for the preparation of Au nanoplates based on a photocatalytic approach is reported. The method allows the control over the average size of the final products, by changing the concentration of the photocatalyst. The formation of the nanotriangles was followed by TEM and UV/vis, and the results show that the nanotriangles are formed by slow reorganization of the irregular nanoparticles formed initially. Control experiments using different concentrations of photocatalyst and CTAB additionally show that the formation of nanoplates strongly depends on the initial reduction rate, with smaller nanoplates being formed as the rate of initial reduction reaction increases.
