The magnetic and optical property of nickel doped SnO2 nano-powders

Abstract:
The influence of nickel dopant on the magnetism of SnO2 nano-powders is studied. Weak room temperature hysteresis is observed in pure SnO2 nano-powders. The magnetic moment as a function of temperature can be well fitted by a combination of three dimensional spin-wave and Curie-Weiss model, indicating that there are at least two components contribute to the magnetism, i.e., the ferromagnetic and the paramagnetic one. The nickel doping reduces the ratio of ferromagnetic ordering moments of pure SnO2 nano-powders. The nickel doping has little influence on the luminescence emission peaks’ positions. The band gap is reduced by the nickel doping.
