Abstract: ZnO nanomaterials has many technology applications in luminescent devices, [1] photonic crystals, light emitting diodes, photodetectors, photodiodes.[2] ZnO nanorods are being intensively studied because of their optical properties. ZnO nanorods were synthesized by the thermal decomposition of Zinc nitrate Hexahydrate Zn(NO3)2.6H2O and Hexamethylenetramine (HMT) (C6 H12N4) . Various substrates were prepared for the growth of ZnO nanorods; such as Platinum and p type Silicon (100) with sputtered ZnO film, (ZnO/Pt, ZnO/Si). the morphology and microstructures of selected nanorods, not only as a function of chemical composition but also of crystal size variation. The morphology of ZnO nanorods were examined by Scanning electron microscopy and the chemical compositions were examined by X- ray diffraction.
