Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences at Oak Ridge National Laboratory

The Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences (CNMS) is a national user facility for nanoscience research located at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in eastern Tennessee. The CNMS provides access to equipment and scientific expertise for nanoscale research that defines the state of the art in areas such as macromolecular systems, functional nanomaterials, nanostructured catalysts, nanomagnetism and quantum transport, bio-inspired nanomaterials, nanomaterials theory, and studies of nanoscale structure and dynamics using neutrons, electrons, and x-rays. The CNMS is open to users from academia, industry, and government for both short-term and long-term research. Users gain access through a brief peer-reviewed proposal and there is no charge for users who intend to publish their results. Proprietary research is also permitted on a cost-recovery basis. Interested parties are encouraged to consult CNMS staff members, the CNMS web site or e-mail cnmsuser@ornl.gov to learn more about the center’s capabilities.
