Donald Biggar Willett Professor of Engineering, Dean, College of Engineering
Director, Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Dr. Ilesanmi Adesida is the Dean of the College of Engineering, the Director of the Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology, Donald Biggar Willett Professor of Engineering, and Professor of Electrical and Computer Science, Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His fields of research interests are nanofabrication and high speed semiconductor optoelectronic devices and circuits.

Professor Adesida received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1979. He worked in various capacities at what is now known as the Cornell Nanofabrication Facility and the School of Electrical Engineering, Cornell University. He was later the Head of the Electrical Engineering Department at Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Nigeria from where he joined the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He was previously the Director of the Micro & Nanotechnology Laboratory at the University of Illinois. In collaboration with colleagues, his efforts led to the award of the NSF Nanoscale Center for Chemical-Electrical-Mechanical-Manufacturing Systems to the University of Illinois in 2003. He has extensive experience in nanofabrication and also in the development of novel processes for wide bandgap materials such as silicon carbide and gallium nitride. He has also worked on ultra-high-speed photodetectors and photoreceivers in various III-V materials systems. He has won many awards, published over 300 journal papers, and also presented over 250 invited and contributed conference papers. Professor Adesida has chaired many international conferences including serving as the Program and General Chair of the Electronic Materials Conference from 2000 to 2003. He is a Fellow of IEEE, AVS, OSA, and AAAS. He is currently serving as the President of the IEEE Electron Device Society and he is a member of the National Academy of Engineering.

Speaking in the 2007 International Conference on Nanofabrication Technologies, Devices and Applications, NanoFab 2007.
