Abstract:
Electrospinning is a unique way to producing novel polymer nano fibres with diameter typically in the range from 10 nm to 1500nm. Polymer nano fibres can be made from a variety of polymer solutions or melts. Nylon 6 and PEO nanofibres with diameter ranging from 200nm to 1300 nm were prepared by the electrospinning process. The fibre diameter was varied by adjusting the concentration of the polymer solution. The concentration used in this experiment was 10-25wt% for nylon 6 and 8-14 wt% for PEO. .The solvent was use formic acid for nylon and Water for PEO. The fibres were obtained by electrospinning from solutions in formic acid and water at various concentrations. The solutions were characterized by viscosity measurements in a cone and plate rheometer. Polymer concentration, viscosity, surface tension, molecular weight; electrical conductivity of solvents was found as dominant parameters to control the process The solutions were then successfully processed into ultra fine fibres from these solutions. The processed fibres have been examined for its quality through microscopic techniques. This study will established the difference between the study of the polymer solution with in an organic acid and water based solvent which produced the different diameter of nanofibres.
