Abstract:
We have investigated the roughness correlation between the substrate and this new type of nanocomposite film, prepared by using diblock copolymer poly(styrene-b-isoprene) as matrix and iron oxide nanoparticles covered with polystyrene hairs from a-lithium polystyrene sulfonated (LPSS) as fillers, having gradient in thickness, by micro-focus grazing incident small angle X-ray scattering (µGISAXS) at the beam-line BW4 of the DORIS III storage ring at HASYLAB (DESY, Hamburg) under synchrotron radiation. The grazing incidence geometry enhances the surface sensitivity. Because of micro-size focus of the beam it was possible to access locally to the roughness correlation between the composite film surface and the substrate. The correlation decreases with the decreasing film thickness. The detector cuts tell us about the information of structure perpendicular to the surface, roughness and the cut-off length of the roughness correlation. The out of plane cuts allow us to access the information (geometry, size distribution and spatial correlation) of lateral structures.
