Biomarker Discovery for Exposure of Macrophage Cells to Nanoparticles

S. Kamakshi Sundaram

S. Kamakshi Sundaram

Materials Scientist
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, US

Dr. Sundaram, a Materials Scientist, joined the Laboratory in 1994. Since then, he has worked on projects covering a wide range of areas, for example, high-temperature vitrification of nuclear wastes; evaluation and improvement of nuclear waste glass melter performance; evaluation of aging nuclear reactors; glass or glass-ceramic sealing systems for syn-gas and automobile applications; and electrochemical corrosion and protection of materials in aggressive environments, electrochemistry and redox of glass melts. Since 2000, he has initiated and is growing the area of “Optics & Photonics.” In collaboration with his colleagues, he has been developing non-oxide glass (chalco) processing capability and working on various aspects of integrated infrared photonic materials and structures (nanoscale - microscale) for chemical sensing applications to meet the needs of the sponsors (DOE and DARPA). In addition, he has used quasi-optics to develop advanced millimeter/THz wave technology for non-contact measurement of materials properties and process parameters in adverse environments. He is also promoting the emerging area of attosecond/femtosecond materials science and engineering that uses short laser pulses and advanced optics for time-resolution of several electrical/optical/photonic processes in materials and devices.
