| Peter Schurtenberger
Department of Physics University of Fribourg, Switzerland
| Peter Schurtenberger is a professor of physics at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. His research interests focus on strongly interacting colloidal suspensions, aggregation and gel formation, colloidal glasses and crystals, application of concepts from colloid physics to biology, materials sciences and food technology, on the characterization of soft matter with scattering methods and the development of new instruments for this task. He received his PhD from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich. After several years as a postdoctoral and research fellow at the University of Lund, Sweden, the ETH in Switzerland, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University Medical School he returned to the ETH in Zurich where he built up an independent research group in the Materials Science Department. In 1999 he moved to the University of Fribourg where he received a chair in experimental physics and founded the soft matter group. He has published more than 120 articles in peer reviewed journals, is on the editorial board of a number of journals, and he is general secretary of the European Colloid and Interface Society (ECIS). He is co-founder and president of the start-up company LS Instruments that develops, manufactures and markets novel light scattering instruments.
Speaking in the joint sessions in Nanostructured Fluids, Soft Materials, and Self-Assembly and Nano Particles & Applications.
